Operational Tasks

First Responder and first medical aid

Frequently the ambulance motorbikes of the BRK arrive first on the scene of an accident. The early exploration of the site is essential for the dispatching of further rescue units to the scene co-ordination, medical aid is offered where required. All the life-saving devices and medication, normally carried in an ambulance is packed into compact cases on the bikes.

Organization on Scene

Until the arrival of medical, technical and organisational back-up units the bike- patrol does preliminary work to prepare the structured operation of all following rescue-units on scene as a base of effective and successful work.

Guiding of Non-Local EMS Unit

Rescue units not familiar with local surroundings are guided by the bike-patrol to their destination.

Accident Prevention

A car breaks down on the highway. Instantly a traffic jam develops. Sudden breaking and dangerous change-maneuvers are the result of the ever changing end of the traffic hold-up greatly increasing the risk of further up accidents. Usually people approaching the tail end of a traffic-jam, switch on the warning lights to indicate the danger ahead to the following traffic. In addition to that the motor-bike patrol can backup those efforts by blue flashing blue light and setting-up of additional warning signs to make alert to the potential danger ahead.

Basic Crisis Intervention

People -especially children – who witnessed an accident often are not able to deal with their feelings caused by the traumatic experience. After organization of rescue-units and first medical aid, the motor-bike patrol is there to care of the non-injured victims at an accident scene. The range of intervention includes conversation as well as organisational matters like accommodation, child care or contact of relatives.

Emergency Management and Disaster Control

The pictures of September 11th are still burned into our minds.
In case of a disaster - like the flood disaster in Germany in 2002 - the motor-bike patrol proved to be an important assistance in emergency management and information transfer. Therefore some of the bikes were especially equipped to come into operation, in case of high casualties or a disasters.

Public Relations

The activities of the Bavarian Red Cross are unique.
As the motor-bike patrol is an exceptional operating resource, it serves as an attraction and as an information exchange platform between the public and the BRK (organisation) itself.
